Pure Scottish Heather Honey
A Stunning Fragrant & Potent Honey (Lab Tested)
Our pure Scottish Heather Honey is expertly foraged from resilient heather plants that cover the Scottish hills and countryside, this spectacular honey awakens the taste buds with its aromatic flavour and slightly bitter aftertaste. Known for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties this honey rivals manuka in terms of medicinal use and content. It has a thicker viscous-like consistency than our other varieties along with being raw, natural and unpasteurised just like our other varieties.
We recently conducted Total Activity (TA) testing on this variety to assess its antimicrobial efficacy, it achieved a remarkable TA rating of 13, well above the benchmark of 10.
The Total Activity (TA) rating assesses both Peroxide Activity (PA) and Non-Peroxide Activity (NPA).
Unlike the Manuka MGO (methylglyoxal) rating, which focuses solely on the concentration of a single antibacterial compound in Manuka honey, Total Activity testing provides a more comprehensive view of honey's overall quality and health benefits
Here’s a comparison of TA ratings with MGO/UMF levels:
TA Rating | MGO/UMF
20+ | 829
15+ | 550
10+ | 263
Some of the other plants the bees feed from include: Beech, Copper, Bluebell, Sycamore, Horse Chestnut, Hawthorn, Raspberry and Wild honeysuckle. This variation of flowering plants gives it a unique taste with depth and added health benefits!
*Scottish Heather is notoriously difficult to harvest. Therefore we will only have a very limited amount each season.
Uses
Great for coughs and sore throats, we have had so many customers tell us how they use it in a hot drink with lemon and ginger! It is also great on some toast or in some warm porridge and beautiful in a light herbal tea.
